Noninvasive Imaging of Cardiac Electrophysiology (NICE)

Computer modeling of bioelectric activity has been of interest in cardiac electrophysiology for several decades (Gulrajani R. M., 1988; Johnson J. R., 1997; Modre R. et al., 2001). Additionally, noninvasive imaging of the electrical excitation from recorded electrocardiograms (ECGs) has become a diagnosis tool in clinical electrophysiology (Modre R. et al., 2003; Ramanathan C. et al., 2004). No...

Single-beat noninvasive imaging of cardiac electrophysiology of ventricular pre-excitation.

OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to determine whether noninvasive imaging of cardiac electrophysiology (NICE) is feasible in patients with Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome in the clinical setting of a catheter laboratory and to test the accuracy of the noninvasively obtained ventricular activation sequences as compared with that of standard invasive electroanatomic mapping. BACKGROUND...

Electrical and Structural Substrate of Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy Determined Using Noninvasive Electrocardiographic Imaging and Late Gadolinium Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

BACKGROUND Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) is a significant cause of sudden cardiac death in the young. Improved noninvasive assessment of ARVC and better understanding of the disease substrate are important for improving patient outcomes. METHODS AND RESULTS We studied 20 genotyped ARVC patients with a broad spectrum of disease using electrocardiographic imaging (a met...

Noninvasive assessment of cardiac electrophysiology for predicting arrhythmogenic risk: are we getting closer?

Identification of patients at significant risk of arrhythmia and sudden cardiac death is one of today’s major cardiology challenges. Although tremendous progress has been made in detecting and characterizing cardiac disease and its progression, largely through imaging modalities, progress in detecting and monitoring changes in arrhythmogenic states has been incremental and has not resulted in r...

Evaluation of Cardiac Mitochondrial Function by a Nuclear Imaging Technique using Technetium-99m-MIBI Uptake Kinetics

Mitochondria play an important role in energy production for the cell. The proper function of a myocardial cell largely depends on the functional capacity of the mitochondria.  Therefore it is necessary to establish a novel and reliable method for a non-invasive assessment of mitochondrial function and metabolism in humans. Although originally designed for evaluating myocardial perfusion, 99mTc...
